Swedish Government renews the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s mandate to secure access to antibiotics

The Swedish Government has assigned the Public Health Agency of Sweden a new task to continue ensuring good access to certain antibiotics in Sweden.

The assignment builds on the current model of guaranteed reimbursement for antibiotics of special medical value. The model covers both new and older antibiotics and aims to ensure continued availability of older products that remain medically important but might otherwise disappear from the market. The Agency will also continue to develop collaboration within the Nordic region, the EU, and internationally to strengthen the supply of critical antibiotics.

Through this new assignment, the Public Health Agency of Sweden is given long-term responsibility for further developing and managing the model, thereby contributing to a secure and sustainable supply of important antibiotics in Sweden.

The assignment is well aligned with PLATINEA’s work to strengthen the sustainable availability and responsible use of antibiotics.
