A new article in the Lancet gives a forecast for the future regarding antimicrobial resistance on a global level

The Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (Gram) project has conducted a systemic analysis and forecast regarding the global burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) that goes as far as to year 2050. The numbers suggest a decline regarding mortality for children under 5 years of age, but an increase regarding adults over the age of 70.
The Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (Gram) project has conducted a systemic analysis based on statistics from 1990 until 2021 to be able to forecast if the goals set to reduce the mortality related to AMR to 10% by year 2030 can be achieved.
Their forecast suggests a decline in mortality for children under the age of 5, but an increase in mortality for adults over the age of 70. The highest mortality rate connected to AMR is estimated to be in Southeast Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.
Infection preventive methods and availability to the right type of antibiotic is discussed in the article as an important tool to reduce the AMR burden.
