DRIVE-AB policyletter regarding a European model for innovation and access to antibiotics

Academic members in the former DRIVE-AB project has completed a policyletter that suggests a new mechanism to stimulate both innovation and access to antibiotics on a European level. This mechanism is built upon the Swedish politmodel and includes generic antibiotics.

Upcoming update for Platinea's webpage

Since Uppsala University is mitigating from the editing program InfoGlue to Sitevision for it's webpages, Platinea will also mitigate and thereby update our webpage. Deadline for the mitigation is during spring 2024.
Platinea will still have the same webpage adress. But keep an eye out for the update of the page!

Three new partners to Platinea

At the General Assembly on the 14th of October this year, three new partners were voted to be a part of Platinea. We are happy to welcome Karo Pharma, Cortexa Life Science and Region Västerbotten to the collaboration platform Platinea! Platinea now consists of 21 partners.

Mapping shows risks for shortage situations of antibiotics for children

In an article from Läkemedelvärlden with Charlotta Edlund from the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the problem is raised that antibiotics for children are often listed as remaining and are difficult to replace with other medicines. The mapping, which was done within PLATINEA, indicates that a large number of antibiotics for children are at risk of disappearing from the Swedish market.

Suggested studies can improve the use of antibiotics

Unnecessary or incorrect use of antibiotics leads to a greater risk of developing resistance and reduced ability to treat infections. The development of new antibiotics is slow, which makes it important to improve access to and use of existing preparations. Many antibiotics that are widely used today were approved at a time when the requirements for documentation were lower.
